German students Fountain House

31. marts 2025

We are four students from Germany that are in Copenhagen for an internship sponsored by Erasmus.

The Fountain House was one of many options for our internship and we really enjoyed spending our time here, without any disappointments.

The Fountain House is a worldwide organization, that provides a space for people with mental health issues, in over 30 countries with more than 350 houses. They provide an environment where people can actively participate in programs, to strengthen their skills and make social connections. Members are treated as equals, focusing on their abilities and not their limitations, in everyday life.

Arriving here, we received a very warm welcome and were immediately comfortable in these surroundings. Even though we were unsure how to imagine a facility like that before our arrival, we were integrated without any delay and quickly learned, how much this place helps members to socialize and feel better.

We were impressed by the versatility of this house and fortunately experienced most of the different units ourselves, by being a part of them for a day and talking to members and staff.

Members and staff work so closely together that they are hard to distinguish sometimes, which further shows how big of a role equality and inclusion play here. Meetings, decisions and discussions are done together and everybody regardless of their role has the same importance and the same right to participate.

Overall we are thoroughly impressed by our experience and would always come back again, because we really believe that this helps the people that come here.

We are very thankful for our time here because we were able to learn a lot through our participation, the people and the conversations with them about the importance of providing this kind of help to the ones that need it.

Thank you for having us and taking the time to teach us about this important matter
